About the Artist

Hi, I'm Lisa, the artist behind JoliArtes and the creator of Mira & Theo.

They've become a way for me to express so many different parts of myself: the child within me, my feminine and masculine sides, my deep-thinking brain, and the joyful kid who simply wants to have fun. They've evolved over time, and the more I paint them, the more I love them.

Mira's story began while I was working through The Artist's Way. I came across the silhouette of a little girl and started to paint. She was dark, but everything around her was bright. As I continued creating, she gradually became lighter, growing into her artist self. Before long, Theo appeared too, and together they began expressing the many sides of our inner child.

JoliArtes has been with me for many years. The name began in Indonesia, where a graphic designer called Jose helped me bring my ideas to life. We combined 'Jo' from Jose and 'Li' from Lisa to create 'Joli', then added 'Artes' because we loved the sound of it. Years later, I still smile at the coincidence that 'Jo' also happens to be the beginning of my surname, Jones. It feels as though the name was always meant to be.

My hope is simply to help people feel a little more joy, love and connection through art and creativity.

I believe we all have an artist inside us waiting to be expressed. It doesn't have to be through painting. Think back to what you loved as a child. I drew. Someone else may have danced, built, written, cooked, sung or dreamed. Creativity has countless forms, and every one of them matters.

Like many people, my own journey has included experiences that changed me. I lost my sister when I was fourteen, and grief like that doesn't just disappear — it changes shape. Over the years I've been learning to quiet the inner critic that no longer served me, and those experiences have shaped not only who I am, but also the words that often find their way into my artwork.

Whether my words resonate with you, or you already have your own, my hope is to help you say what matters most. If you choose one of my greeting cards, I'll handwrite your message on the front, making it uniquely yours.

Thank you for being here.

A few things about me...

✨ I studied Mathematics at university... and somehow ended up painting little children for a living.

🎨 Mira always gets dressed before Theo. I never know what either of them will wear until I pick up my paintbrush.

💜 Every painting begins with a blank character. The colours, clothes and hairstyle appear intuitively as we go.

✍️ My favourite part isn't always the painting. It's finding the words that make someone stop, smile or feel understood.

🌿 When I'm not painting, you'll probably find me walking, training, or thinking about my next idea... usually all at the same time.
